About 7 years ago, my wife and I attended a STEM conference for high school teachers and college instructors. We were eating dinner with a couple that we had met. My wife or I said something about guns. The husband asked me how I prepared the house before leaving. I replied that I had placed all of the defensive guns into the gun vault. He politely and respectfully asked if I would reveal how many guns that entailed. My reply was the 9mm handgun in my wife’s bathroom, the .45 ACP M1911 in my nightstand, the .223 Mini-14 behind the bedroom door, the .357 magnum in the kitchen and the .44 magnum in my desk in the basement. My wife said that I forgot to mention the 12 gauge shotgun in her bedroom and the handgun in my bathroom.
All have subsequently been lost in a tragic boating accident.
