Consulates partnering with American colleges, non-profits to award scholarships to Mexican students abroad

The Mexican government is partnering with American colleges and non-profits to provide scholarships worth up to $33,000 to young immigrants.

The grant is part of a larger program that awarded $2.2 million in scholarships to 2,925 students in the United States, with $1 million coming from the Institute for Mexicans Abroad.

The scholarships cater to Mexicans who are part of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, though any who arrived in the United States prior to Nov. 15, 2015 are eligible, the consulate said.

TheDream.Us is the local co-sponsor with a $16,500 cap for those pursuing an associate degree and $33,000 for those in bachelor’s programs. The deadline for applications is February 25.

The Institute for Mexicans Abroad (IME, in Spanish), is an agency of the Mexican government with citizen chapters in many major American cities. The funds come from the Mexican government, local fundraising and matching funds from participating American colleges, universities and nonprofits.

American kids have dreams too. I despise Mexico and Mexicans. Mexico is the richest country in Latin America. Per capita there are more billionaires in Mexico than any western nation on Earth.

And yet the Mexican government doesn’t give a damn about their own
people and instead encourages them to violate our borders and laws for the sole purpose of pulling billions of dollars out of our country to send back to theirs. They do this after receiving free education, free health care and other taxpayer funded welfare.

I say that all the time. But in a way, it's the U.S. fault. We make the problem worse by incentivizing illegal immigration. Which in turn means the most motivated come here, and that makes the governments in Mexico.

With the laws we have in place here, it would be irrational to think that many wouldn't come here illegaly.

If laws incentivize something, it will happen.

Will never happen. Democrats need more voters.

...Which in turn means the most motivated come here...

You know that both the Rs and the Ds are doing this wrong.

The Ds by wanting the lowest classes to come and the Rs by not wanting anyone.

If we figured out the right incentives, the US could plunder Mexico of her best and brightest people which would benefit the US enormously.
