Of course if they try to anyway, President Trump has no redress. The courts will say he has "no standing".
It's funny how the courts work on the "standing" issue. If a farmer in Texas wants to expand his irrigation ditch, an environmental group half a continent away in Maine will have "standing" to sue the farmer. If a federal election was stolen from you because of widespread demonstrable fraud, then you have "no standing".
It's a very curious way to run a "free country".

When Republicans get control, EVERY Democrat President in history needs to be impeached. Not being alive makes no difference if not in office is ignored.
Art 2, Sect 4 clearly indicates that Potus shall be removed from office after being impeached. That is not possible. Trump is not Potus.
Art 1 additionally says the Chief Justice presides when the Potus is being impeached. Since Trump isn’t the potus, then potus isn’t being impeached. Therefore, the CJ does not preside.
Who will?
If he does,is that an accidental admission that Trump is really the Potus?
