Not sure what data they are looking at. The Worldometer clearly shows a decrease in the 7 day moving average from Jan 8 to Jan 19.

Is this due to mandatory lock down, or they could had the results with common sense? I will go with common sense if people have friends who get very sick they will take precautions.

Agreed about the Worldometer data for the UK. In fact, given the typical curve lag, the Worldometer daily new cases curve looks like a textbook example of mitigation working.

Now, which facets of mitigation and other factors are contributing most to the decline in cases is likely to be debated for some time. Ditto for unintended side effects, costs, and so on...
