Pretense of press independence
self

Posted on 01/20/2021 7:52:29 AM PST by Daveinyork

In my lifetime, the media/press has gotten away with the pretense of independence.

TOPICS: Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS:
I'm 71 years old, so my memory goes back a bit. I remember the media/press, while pretending to be independent, have attacked Republican Presidents, and presidential candidates since Barry Goldwater's 1964 campaign.

Then they succeeded in driving Nixon out of office, and defeating Ford in the next election. They heaved mightily, and failed, to drive Reagan from the Presidency, and succeeded in defeating a naive George H.W. by a corrupt Bill Clinton.

Then they went after Speaker Newt and eventually got him.

It was those darn Arabs on 9-11 that derailed their attack on W, but they used the disaster of Hurricane Katrina to weaken him.

All this was done by a media pretending to be independent, but they were so full of hate for the outsider Trump that they have abandoned all pretense of independence in their desire to get him, and they have succeeded.

None of them can have any affection for the corrupt, demented, perverted Biden. It's just that he's not Trump, or a Republican.

Doesn't matter. He's not a Republican. Journalism is dead in the MSM.

So you grew up too with “The most trusted man in America”, Walter Cronkite. Now we know of course what a lying, deceitful snake he really was.

“None of them can have any affection for the corrupt, demented, perverted Biden. It’s just that he’s not Trump, or a Republican.”

************************************************************

Biden was not only their best shot, he was their only shot at getting enough middle of the road low info Dems to pull the lever. Anyone else, ANYONE ELSE, and they would not have been able to create enough fraud to overcome the Trump tsunami. With the help of MSM they were able to use c’mon man to fool just enough regular Americans. Now, ‘ol Joe isn’t much use to them anymore.

They go after every Republican President and try and impeach. Part of the norm.

Actually, the only thing that gave the Dems a shot was the Chinavirus, which gave them the opportunity to corrupt the election.

“It was those darn Arabs on 9-11 that derailed their attack on W, but they used the disaster of Hurricane Katrina to weaken him.”

It was more than Katrina that weakened Bush. First, he made no real effort, throughout his administration, to combat the vicious attacks from the Democrats and the media, apparently believing defending himself was beneath the dignity of the office.

Second, he plunged the nation into a decades long military involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq which was based on false intelligence and had no long term objective. Ignoring the geopolitical realities, he had some idealistic notion of establishing democracy in Muslim nations with no cultural affinity for self government.

Third, he pushed and achieved passage of the anti-Constitution Patriot Act, which has only served to crush the civil liberties of American citizens.

Fourth, his fiscal mismanagement resulted in the country going from a balanced budget, the last year of the Clinton Administration, to doubling the accumulated national debt during the Bush years. Republican House Speaker Dennis Hastert, and the GOP majority in the House, used earmarks with no restraint. Bush’s failure to use his veto to put a brake on Congress’s spending, plus acceptance of omnibus spending bills, resulted in the debt spiraling out of control which has only been exacerbated by the Obama and Trump presidencies and will continue under Biden.

Fifth, as you point out he allowed the media and Democrats to spin Katrina narrative. After Katrina, it seemed he essentially went into hiding allowing Pelosi, Schumer, and McCain to completely dominate the news cycle.

At best George W. Bush was an administrator, not a visionary leader. When you don’t know where you are going, any road will take your there, particularly if you allow other people to take control of the steering wheel.
