It was always a BS charge. I read about this in January, a month before the briefing, and thought we’d weather it with no problem. Plenty of people heard about it and thought it was a China-specific problem. That it was raising hell in China did not automatically mean that it would cause problems elsewhere. SARS took a toll in China and pretty much nowhere else. Heck, Ebola ran wild in parts of Africa and the stock market reaction was crickets.
I’m the opposite of a fan of this man. But the charge always seemed like a PR exercise in response to scurrilous Democratic charges more than anything else. It did have one important effect - give Collins plenty of ammo to seriously wound Loeffler in the primary and help Ossoff beat Loeffler handily in the runoff.
