Statehood for D.C. and Puerto Rico only needs 50 votes
The Week ^ | Jon Walker

Many journalists and political commentators have been pessimistic about the possibility of statehood for the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. This seems to be primarily because, despite the recent Democratic victories in Georgia, moderate senators like Joe Manchin (D-W.V.), Diane Feinstein (D-Calif), and Angus King (I-Maine) continue to support the legislative filibuster. It is impossible to imagine Republican senators voting to give Democratic-leaning areas full representation, so the issue must be dead on arrival in the upper chamber. But in a recent CNN interview, Manchin himself provided evidence for why this thinking is all wrong......."

I will say that I think Lin Wood was misunderstood in this whole deal, perhaps deliberately so. I understood him to mean that he wanted Georgia conservatives to demand that their government fix the mail in ballot problem before the vote, as he feared it would turn out the way it did. He was saying why should we trust the system that they just used to steal the Presidential vote? No one listened and no one rose up. Everyone just labeled him a kook.

Cubans and South Americans were for Trump. Mexicans and Central Americans for Biden. Source.

Problem is, a hell of a lot more Mexicans and Central Americans reside in the U.S. than Cubans and Venezuelans.

I think the ones I listed can name new Senator without a special election.

Don’t think it really matters. The second Senators were votes on by popular vote the separation of powers was only a theory. The Senate is controlled by money. I’m fine with more Senators, each one gets less money and the cost of bribing goes down. Thats a win in New America. Voting is not the way out of this no matter which way you slice it.

Mercy. You think having the Senate was a way out of this? How much money would it cost to get just 1 GOPe member to vote Yay? Murkowski is all in for the Rats. The Senate isn’t going to save the country. Maybe when everyone stops looking for answers in Washington things can move forward but there is no reason to believe that will happen any time soon.

Don’t worry, the John Roberts SCOTUS will turn back any Demagogic Party challenges to the US Constitution.

Don’t forget Mexico. Hey, if we’re going to take all Mexico’s people, least we can do is make them a state.

Mexico might have a more legitimate government than ours at this point.

Mercy. You think having the Senate was a way out of this?

Reminder for you, as unreliable as Murkowski is, she did not vote to convictTrump on either count in the first impeachment. Murkowski voted to xonfirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett.

Holding the Senate isn't the way out, it was the way to limit damage until it can be won back, along with the presidency. If you don't think there is any difference between GOP and Dem control, you are in for an unpleasant surprise.

Where in there does it say that you can’t make a state out of it?

I guess putting district in bold didn't help you figure things out.
It probably won't help you figure it out now either.

Sucks to be you!

Puerto Rico and WA DC are two of the most corrupt places in the US, Chicago might be close.

If they become states and get federal money as states, I want the FBI to crack down on corruption in those locations. I also want their “special status” in terms of tax breaks and compliance with a host of laws removed.
