I was at the Capitol building that day (never went inside) but I can tell you that I did not see any violence whatsoever. Certainly there was a lot of loud chanting, that you would normally hear at any protest. But no threats of violence like you would hear at a BLM rally or some such.
Also, cell coverage was near non-existent. I could not pull up anything on social media on my phone so I did not hear about the shooting of that woman until I was on my way back to the Metro to head home. I didn't even know that anybody was actually INSIDE the Capitol. I was shocked to find out later that hundreds of people were walking around in there. I did not get any indication of that from my vantage point. But I could see clearly all the people filling the bleachers and trying to get up on the Capitol steps.
Thanks for sharing your first hand account. It sheds a great deal of light on what the day was like for the vast majority of protesters.
