Record amounts of ammunition are being manufactured and sold.
The shelves are bare because the ammo is being purchased long before it is made.
Some distributors are backordered for more than a year.

It is out there, but expensive. Handgun target rounds are going for 2x the price of self-defense rounds from 3 years ago.
Back before Y2K I bought numerous “wrist-rockets” and “ammo” for them.
