The images of the storming of the US Capitol in Washington, DC, on January 6 sent shock waves around the world. The theme of Thursday’s debate in the Bundestag — “In the Wake of the Storming of the Capitol: Strategies to Strengthen Democracy and the Rule of Law in Germany and the World” — shows that those extended to Berlin.

Many of the speakers warned that democracy and the rule of law are under threat. Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, of the Social Democrats (SPD), referred to the Capitol, the seat of the US House of Representatives and the Senate, as the “heart of democracy.” He reminded the members of parliament that, after World War II, the Federal Republic of Germany was founded as a democracy thanks to the support of the United States.

“American democracy, with its famous checks and balances, withstood the attacks,” Maas said, adding that German politicians should refrain from offering self-righteous judgments of the United States. […]

Johann Wadepfuhl, of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s ruling Christian Democrats, said the historic relationship between Germany and the United States meant that the government must offer its support to the incoming administration in the US. …

What? Have they recognized the blinding power of his charisma and presence as he has strode like a colossus astride the world stage? Maybe because he is a stride. What’s a stride? Let’s not get carried away, now. There will be plenty of fraud and corruption for everybody.

November2019: Maas released a short article commemorating the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. A heady and joyful event, the fall of the Wall was a victory against oppressive Communist regimes propped up by brute power. More broadly, the annus mirabilis of 1989 was a culmination of decades of sacrifice by the oppressed nations in Central and Eastern Europe, supported by the free nations of Western Europe and by the deep and long commitment of the United States to fight the evil ideology of Communism. For Maas, the fall of the Berlin Wall was a victory over “walls and borders,” admittedly in the name of freedom and rule of law, but he is vague about who in particular the opponent was. The socialist paradise of the proletariat, which built the Wall and the Iron Curtain from the Baltic to the Adriatic and was responsible for 100 million dead, remains unnamed as the enemy.

The communists are further reproached for desiring to abolish countries and nationality.
— Manifesto, chapter 2
It is not possible for the elimination of “walls and borders” to be conducive to the rule of law.

Maas will of course be silent about the USSR: after all, the de-facto constitution of the EU (the Treaty of Lisbon) expresses “respect for the principles of the UN charter”, a document based on the 1936 USSR constitution commissioned by Stalin; and even the Grundgesetz resembles the USSR constitution in many respects.

Ever since their coming out in the renaissance the Europeans have been the most disruptive force on Earth.

Their glorious rotten empires became bloated with resources they plundered from weaker nations, and they were the spark for the American Revolution which opposed their kings and emperors and colonial robbery.

Their empires collapsed but they still have the appetite they gained during their centuries of colonial gluttony - and the only viable source of blood for them to suck is the US.

The Founders warned us not to get mixed up with them now we are paying the price.
