Rather astonishing history. The idea that they’d vote him out of office shortly after the war ended. Like a story from the Bible.
There were actually some valid reasons. One, a lot of people still were pissed at the Tories for Chamberlain’s appeasement.
Also the British economy was in tatters after the war, and while most Brits were appreciative of Churchill, Labour did a better job of selling the post-war vision, whereas all the Conservatives had basically was Churchill. Remember it wasn’t an election between Churchill and Atlee directly, it was for seats in Parliament, that determined who the PM would be.

There’s no denying that Trump has done more to downsize warfare than any leader since Reagan IMO. His actions in Europe and the Middle East have also taken pressure off the UK to follow the US military around like a lost puppy.
The US & UK need to focus on making sure NATO works for the future benefit of both nations, particularly now the UK has left the EU. The EU’s plans for its own army are in freefall. Never again should the US & UK go rushing to help continental Europe, without a very large “upfront payment”.

I’ve said before, and it is my firm belief, that if the US EVER has to liberate Paris, again, all of France should be ceded to the United States, and become the First European Continental State admitted to The Union.
