While Democrat leaders seem intent on impeaching Trump a second time for no legitimate reason, there are some in the Democratic caucus who aren’t fully on board, hoping instead to have Congress focused on Biden’s left-wing agenda.
The House is expected to vote on impeachment on Wednesday. But more moderate members of the party have “serious concerns” that such a move is impractical, especially since it is extremely unlikely that the Senate would vote to convict.
“How does this affect Joe Biden’s presidency in terms of his cabinet and other legislation necessary to address the Covid-19 crisis, and in terms of his goal to unite the country,” said a House Democratic aide, who spoke with NBC News anonymously. “Of course this guy should be punished, but how can we do this in a way that doesn’t negatively affect a country that is still reeling from an ongoing health and economic crisis?”
The aide also said some moderate Democrats worry that impeachment would “harden Trump’s base and turn him into a martyr instead of keeping him on his heels with a fractured GOP.”
But others claim their party is united on impeachment.
“There is a broad consensus in our caucus that this president must be impeached and removed from office. He presents a clear and present danger to our democracy,” said Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.), a chief sponsor of the impeachment article. “I think that we should pass it and the Senate should take it up immediately.”
If Democrats proceed with impeachment and trigger an impeachment trial, all other Senate business would be tabled until the trial (which, again, is extremely unlikely to end in conviction) is completed, meaning that Biden’s legislative agenda would be put on hold for a futile effort that is likely only to enrage Trump supporters.

Seems to me the Dems need to start work on more meaningful things rather than trying to tarnish an ex-President. They already wasted 4 years on one witch hunt, why this one?

The objective is, if convicted, Trump would be banned from ever running for office again.
He has created tremendous fear in the Democrats, and the Swamp. It’s time for him to start a new party. I’ll bet he’d get thirty million members from all areas of the spectrum. It’s not enough to win in many races, but it could make him kingmaker.

What you are witnessing is a pack of snarling dogs who have been backed into a corner and have nowhere to go. They or at least their leaders are aware that Trump has big plans for them between now and January 20th. Their whole world is about to come to an end. They are not going to go gently either but they are going to go. So when the covert activities that are happening now become overt activities in the coming days just stay out of the way and let the military do their job.
I'm not sure what covert activities you're referring to. I don't see any disappearances of traitorous politicians, media figures, social media biggies, academicians, celebrities, etc.
The basic charge is undermining democracy by questioning the legitimacy of the election.
It seems to me a good defense would be showing why there are grounds for doubt.
In other words, an impeachment trial would be the perfect opportunity to bring up every irregularity in the election. Unlike the joint session, in a trial there can be witnesses and evidence. I understand there are lots of both.
Also, the CJ presides, so the Ds don’t have an automatic majority (50-50 tie w/o VP Harris). Bad as he is, I think he’d allow the respondent to present his case.

Impeachment makes democrats look like lunatics. Of course, their devout followers think every day should be impeachment day because CNN and PMSNBC said so.
You are not going to see the big fish being arrested today. They are quietly snatching mid level ANTIFA and BLM thugs off the streets. That kind of stuff does not get reported. Do you not think our govt doesn’t know who all these little slugs are? Of course they do. All this covert activity is to prepare the field for the major events to come.
