Especially when some of them gave up more socially prestigious jobs back home to work as menials stateside. An example? A Central American guy who was an engineer in his home country doing maintenance work for an apartment complex here. We aren’t getting the jet-setting money-is-no-object entrenched national elites, but we do get middle class immigrants here. Normally, such people would stay home. Their home country incomes mean that they should be comfortable there.

The problem is in Latin America is rampant drug and gang crime, which was not a problem before 80’s and 90’s there, somehow became a huge problem and never went away. We saw, through the crack wars that peaked in the early 90’s, only a smidgen of what they have to deal with constantly.
