Good question. I think he is in military prison, and it is at least 2x harder to execute a military death row inmate. He was sentenced to the United States Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas to await execution.

Trivia: Though ADX Florence, CO, is the top high security federal penitentiary, it only has one inmate awaiting execution, though they have many “celebrity” criminals.

That's up to the military courts. This is federal. I don't think the military has executed anyone on their death row in 60 years.
