As a guy who understands how the internet technically works, I can tell you that those easy to generate paths are only allowed if the people who control important levers on the internet allow you to. I won’t go into details but these technical details is why the government of Iran can ‘turn off’ the internet at will.

Yep. There are certain hardware and software choke points that are near 100% efective.
The technology companies are in bed with the government. It’s how 100% of the data flow is accessible at all times to those in government. We are no different from China or Iran that way. Monitored and if need be (government’s decision on “need”), confronted with deady force.
