“Gab is having difficulty dealing with high volume of new users.”

Probably just growing pains.

They've recently had a huge influx of new users. it's not growing pains, it's growing too fast pains. Servers aren't cheap, and require alot of effort and money to start up in the first place. So you don;t overcompensate much - if you have 200M users, you have a system that supports maybe 400M. When you suddenly jump to 2MM people, it simply can't support that, and it takes time, money, and effort to boost the systems, a HUGE upfront cost. And, if you don't know if the user base will stay that big, it's hard to put that effort in, even you have the ability to do so. (Doesn't apply as much here.)

That's one of the big benefits of Amazon or Oracle or Microsoft's "cloud" systems - they're designed for many small companies, so they can virtually assign you extra server space/processing when your site suddenly gets 20 or 100 times its normal traffic. Then, when it settles back down, you simply are no longer assigned that extra power. But they can do that because they have so mach space to move around, they aren't limited by being for only one or two companies that have to own and maintain their own small systems.

“That’s one of the big benefits of Amazon or Oracle or Microsoft’s “cloud” systems”

Technically. But since they HATE us and don’t want us, it’s sort of a moot point.
