I don’t know if they still have time as it will be 6 days before the inauguration when it reaches Senate assuming it passes the House.

And do we have 17 Republicans who will vote to remove to reach the 2/3 majority?

So far, I only see Romney, Murkowski, Sasse and Collins who will be inclined to go with the Democrats.

The senate trial doesn’t become moot on or after Jan 20. The trial can proceed and while removal from office would be off the table, the senators could still vote to disqualify Trump from future office.

Monday January 11, 2021 - Impeachment article introduced in committee. Voted out of committee on the same day.
Wednesday January 13, 2021 - Impeachment article voted by full house. House managers attempt to pass article to US senate. Mitch McConnell says US Senate is closed so come back tomorrow.
Thursday January 14, 2021 - US Senate accepts article of Impeachment. McConnell then says we will send a letter asking Trump to send them a list of lawyers to defend him.
Trump says “Screw Pelosi.” McConnell says “We can’t start the impeachment proceedings until we find a set of lawyers to represent Trump.” The Senate doesn’t find lawyers and that ends the impeachment trial.
