A coalition representing Illinois law enforcement leadership and rank-and-file officers has issued a statement in opposition to House Bill 163 as amended that was unveiled earlier this week, saying:
The so-called “reforms” that are part of House Bill 163 as amended would destroy law enforcement’s ability to keep communities safe. The authors of this legislation are not law enforcement professionals with hundreds of years of combined experience and this bill was drafted without law enforcement input, and because of that the long-term unintended consequences of this legislation would be dire. The Illinois Law Enforcement Coalition recently enumerated its Safe Communities plan, a sensible approach to modernizing Illinois law enforcement, but House Bill 163 as amended would lead to unsafe communities in Illinois. We urge the Illinois General Assembly to avoid making a sudden, rash decision in the Lame Duck Session and instead work carefully with all stakeholders to truly examine what needs to be done regarding law enforcement in Illinois.
The Illinois Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) State Lodge, FOP Labor Council, FOP Chicago Lodge 7, Illinois Sheriffs’ Association and the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police have formed the Illinois Law Enforcement Coalition and have been working on these strategies since summer to improve community safety and enhance the trust between community members and law enforcement.

HB 163 Amendment 2 will weaken law enforcement's ability to keep our communities safe. Here are a few of the disturbing particulars:
Makes police officers civilly liable for anything, anytime
Eliminates felony murder
Removes suspension of a driver’s license for ongoing traffic violations
Allows officers to be fired/disciplined based on anonymous complaints
Allows unrestricted and ungoverned disciplinary policies against officers
Prohibits the purchase of reduced-price, life-protecting militaristic equipment that officers need for emergency situations
Increases courses and training requirements with no money to pay for them
Mandates officers wear body cameras with no money to pay for them and punishes non-compliance
Enacts multiple benefits for felons including access to victim compensation
Prohibits use of force and makes officers criminally liable for any type of force
Urge your lawmaker to oppose HB 163 Amendment 2 which will cripple law enforcement and make our communities les safe.
That’s the point of it. Woketard policing.
Police in Chicongo could stand to be handcuffed since they don’t give a sh!t about the law and their leaders make no secret of wanting to murder people they don’t like.
Time to clean up CHICAGO! This man was ELECTED by "We the People" to police the Windy City.
After witnessing the behavior of nearly every LE organization in the last year, I have no sympathy.
Tell that to every law-abiding police office who serves in ILLINOIS.
...........I think your view is known as “throwing the baby out with the wash”. There are many bad cops but there are also lots of good cops!
I sympathize greatly with police officers, but since they are always told to stand down when leftists are committing crimes, the police (through no fault of their own) are now a threat only to conservatives. I am in favor of 100% disbanding police departments.
.
Leftists thrive on Chaos.
They destroy any Institution they can’t control.
Its becoming apparnet to sane people that its Time to get rid of these Un-American politicialns and their ldemlefty media mouthpieces.
DRIVE THEM OUT OF OFFICE and PUT their media minions out of business.
BOYCOTT and Impeach

I don’t live I Illinois but I’m sure our Democrat legislators here in Virginia are hard at work crafting their own version of this marvel of irresponsibility.
Wouldn’t it be interesting if all the bill’s “woke” sponsors were doxxed and citizens began to contact them individually and in groups to express their opinions/concerns the bill’s particulars at their private residences in the middle of the night?
Yup. And a threat to anyone who defends himself against the criminal class.
I agree with your post 100000%.
I’m an Illinois resident, and I actually think that passing this bill would be a good thing. The area that I reside in has very little crime, I’ve not called the police in the almost 5 years I’ve been here and I can’t recall a time when my neighbors or anyone else I knew needed the police. The people that will be hurt by this are the people in lower-income areas who need the police the most. I haven’t looked into it, but I bet the sponsors of this bill represent those areas.
I say let this pass. After a year or two of an increase in crime, let the people see the folly of their ways and (hopefully) vote out the Democrats.
