CONGRESS has approved a new $740.5bn (£541.9bn) defence spending bill overturning President Trump's veto as a Senator warned of "World War III" with Beijing.
This was achieved by a cross-party alliance of Democrat and Republican lawmakers.
The bill included a five year $18.5bn (£13.5bn) ‘Pacific Deterrence Initiative’ to boost the US military presence in the Pacific Ocean.
Tensions between America and China have been surging in this region, with the US refusing to accept Beijing’s claim of sovereignty over the South China Sea.
The new legislation, which came to 4,500 pages, was drafted by the Senate armed services committee.
It’s chair, Republican Senator James Inhofe, claimed Beijing is preparing for “World War III” in the South China Sea.
He added: “We are in the most dangerous situation that we’ve been in before.”
Jack Reed, a Democrat who serves on the Senate armed services committee, echoed this view.
He commented: “This is the first time we have really stepped back and said: ‘We have a new threat rising in the Pacific. We have to take a holistic view’.”

I may take flack from some FReepers for saying this but the way things are now in the U.S., the Chinese would just need to hit targets in the U.S. that would disrupt the internet, Starbucks and Whole Foods supply, and most of the population would give up. Also we could not call it the Chinese American war, for that would sound racist (sarc).

Case in point, the current Armenia vs Azerbaijan conflict.
Putting a demented crook and his power-hungry wife in charge of government is a recipe for disaster. War certainly. Surrender probably. The Chinese investment in buying US officials is certainly paying off. There must be a great deal of laughter in the halls of the CCP these days.
It must either dominate or be dominated.
And now, because of growth and technology, China's neighborhood has become the entire world.
If Biden moves into the WH, China will move quickly to consolidate it power over the U.S.
On the other hand, if this Biden-fronted coup fails, China will move to plan B and take whatever action they perceived as most effective to attack the U.S. in this our moment of weakness, chaos, and division.
If Trump returns to the WH for another term, it would be illogical for China to wait until Trump regains his strength (i.e., control over the military, intelligence community, and Deep State).
China may do what appears to be illogical (i.e., wait), but we can be assured there are many in the CCP and Chinese military arguing for action to be taken NOW!

There are many snakes that need thier heads cut off to stem this coup. The hammer needs to come down hard. Those who have committed treason with this coup need to be tried in a military court and sentenced immediately. All means that the president has at his disposal MUST be used before he no longer has it.......to use.

I don’t know why you think you’d take incoming for that comment. Is there any debate left about how soft this country has gotten? We have better weapons and equipment than China, but they will eclipse us soon. My money would be on them winning any war with us in 5-10 years.
Currently, China is on the precipice of getting their stooge installed into the presidency, so I don’t see how war is imminent. I suppose Biden could open up a war after his domestic agenda fails, but it would probably be against some patsy country for accolades from the press. I think this was all a smokescreen for Republicans overriding Trump on the defense bill since no one wanted to yank social media’s legal immunity.
