Always go to the published research. The media always screws up the story, sometimes maliciously. The politicians always screw up the story, most often maliciously.

I try to find sources like that but, as a layman, I find it difficult to do with all the “popular” media trash that comes up in a search.
Refining search terms to produce good results is an art that is easier to acquit when one is already knowledgeable on the subject.
