The Houston Health Department opened the city’s first public COVID-19 vaccine site Saturday...
In a release Saturday morning, the Houston Health Department said the public’s response was overwhelming. The COVID-19 call center was inundated by those seeking to schedule vaccination appointments...
While the department worked to get its call center up and running again, it pivoted to on-site registration Saturday.
Those who met Phase 1A or Phase 1B vaccination criteria and wanted to get vaccinated were asked to proceed to the Bayou City Event Center, located at 9401 Knight Road, where they were provided an appointment time.
The clinic’s Saturday capacity was limited to 750 appointments. By 1:30 p.m. Saturday, all appointments had been issued.
The goal in January is to provide 100,000 vaccines to residents.
...the call center’s technical issues were resolved and the call center had reopened. To make an appointment to receive the Moderna vaccine, call the health department’s COVID-19 call center at 832-393-4220 between the house of 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Texas’ Phase 1B distribution plan will prioritize people 65 and older and people 16 and older, who have at least one chronic medical condition, putting them at increased risk, according to a release...
Medical conditions include the following: cancer, chronic kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart conditions, solid organ transplantation, obesity and severe obesity, pregnancy, sickle cell disease and type 2 diabetes.

Next week we should see the rate ramp up strongly, as so many new operations get underway (many had to wait for the Moderna vaccine, because of refrigeration constraints), and also as many States and Localities are opening vaccination for priority 1B people (elderly and those with certain co-morbidities).
We are now over 4 million doses administered in The USA now, and some folks have already started receiving their second shot. About 300,000 of the Nation's 1.3 million long term care residents have received a first shot, according to the CDC (https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#vaccinations ).
Shhhhhhh. Don’t wake the antivaxxers pro lock downers
I much prefer a COVID-19 pill shop
I’m not anti-vax per se.
But I’m not pro guinea pig either.
You may have mine and I will wait until summer and see how things shake out
Sound fair?
How is the vaccination program proceeding, at your end (in your view)?
Have they worked out the kinks, gotten supplies and are getting the job done?
How does the forecast look?
I’ve already had mine thank you.
“You may have mine”
All the Way, Airborne.
I believe that gas_dr already had a first shot. Most doctors have by this point.
It is already starting to open up for just anybody over a certain age (e.g. 65 in Florida, 70 in Colorado, 75 in Tennessee).
I’m thinking that the Program is going to ramp to a million shots per day over the next few weeks, so there should be plenty of test cases to reduce your risk, if you are hanging back a bit, to see if the volunteers survive.
Personally, I am a lot more comfortable getting the COVID shots, than I was getting the anthrax shots.
Ayep, i got the full anthrax series, never had a problem then and wont hesitate now.
My county in FL has an appt line for 65+ now, free drive up onsite shots, Moderna, starting on Monday.
I will be calling, wish me luck, no telling how many they get allocated, they have dates just opening up
Me, too. I’m glad. Shot #2 on 1/6.
Good Luck!
Call early.
Post back after you get your shot, and let us know how it went.
Same for me!
Honestly, my opinion is to go right at opening up for all soon. Need as many who are willing to get vaccinated to be able to do so. Staffing is getting harder and harder because of the employee cases and exposure protocols.
Let's see, 100,000 target vaccinations at 750 per day. That will take 100,000/750 = 133 days. I guess in the New Math Liberal Calendar, January has 133 days. Who knew?
“Honestly, my opinion is to go right at opening up”
I had a friend go 40 minutes before opening for his shot. When he came out, the line was around the block.
The daily rate of immunizations is about to take off.
The “Deep Freeze” Phizer vaccine only went to a few central locations in each State, and disproportionally went to health care workers initially.
The Moderna vaccine is stored in regular freezers, and is being distributed directly to many more smaller locations. Lots and lots of programs are going to just start up every day next week.
For example, they are putting up tents in the Park in Bradenton, Florida, for a public drive through vaccination service, that starts Monday.
Monday marks a pretty big expansion overall, with a lot Health Departments across the Nation kicking in their programs, and opening them to a much wider population of the public (elderly).
This morning (2 Jan), the CDC reported that 9 million more doses had been delivered,, than had yet been administered (over 4 million).
Last week, more than 10 million doses shipped, but that weekly rate is supposed to step up significantly through this month as well.
200 million doses were contracted for delivery by the end of this month, but I would be surprised if they make that goal, as they got off to a slow start. Even if they fall short of that (currently 30% behind pace), it is still going to be a tidal wave of vaccine.
Nothing is free.
“Honestly, my opinion is to go right at opening up” ...”for all”
I misconstrued what you said. You mean make the vaccine available to all comers.
That is actually the the planned goal, but until the delivered stocks exceed the demand (the “period of scarcity”) they have priorities in place.
In February, emergency approval is expected for the Johnson and Johnson (Janssen) vaccine as well. With another major producer kicking in, and Phizer/Moderna having ramped up production, we should be swimming in vaccine availability. Astrazeneca is on the schedule for April in the USA.
The minute they can’t keep enough priority people lined up for injections, they (generally, it varies by locality) plan to open it up to lower priorities.
Inventory and delivery capacity is supposed to drive the policy.
The sooner the elderly and at risk are innoculated, the sooner the COVID wards empty, and the death rate plummets. When that happens, there is no remaining (rational) public health reason for lockdowns. So there is a strong economic rationale for priorities, until there is enough to go around for everyone.

I got the anthrax series when people were getting kicked out of the military for refusing to get it. They thought they’d die. Lol. Once you get over that ridiculousness, this little vaccine is nothing.
Yeah, it was lots of fun standing in line for the pneumatic shots for all kinds of exotic things.
And don’t flinch or those suckers will rip you a nice cut.
I’m sure once the dust settles I’ll get mine. I have to get the flu shot to volunteer at the local VA.
