That’s amazing, about the FL/DC DAILY train!
I had no idea.
I wonder if there are other routes, around the country.
Which line is this?
TIA :-)
It’s Amtrak. https://www.amtrak.com/home
Most of the service is concentrated in the Northeast corridor, as well as running from Chicago across the country. Anything outside the NE is sparse and they’ve recently cut the cross-country routes to 3X a week instead of daily.
The auto train is DC to Sanford FL only. There is no other location in the US that does it. Suspect it has something with getting people from the NE to their Florida snowbird destination and/or Disney.
If I wanted to take Amtrak from say, Houston TX to DC, I would have to ride the Sunset Limited from Houston to New Orleans, then take the Crescent from New Orleans to DC.
Nashville doesn’t have Amtrak service. I would have to drive to Atlanta, Memphis or St. Louis to even get started.
AMTRAK.....an entity of and to itself!
Amtrak AutoTrain .......but like I said, you can ride with out taking your auto!
We’ve taken it twice and it was fine........( a little loud and jerky at night)
....but the linens were clean ( following Covid rules)....
...the train is very clean
..and the food is delicious!
We took our car.....you have to wait for it to be removed from the train, which could be within minutes or an hour
Sanford has a small snack type gift shop.....( while you wait.....also sells some books, magazines)
...but Lorton has a wider variety better one!
We got there around 12 noon.......and they let the passengers on around 2PM and left for Washington at 4ish
