This has been a weekly post.
Final count for this term is 234 judges confirmed (all existing nominees expire with the Congress tomorrow at noon).
3 Trade Court judges
174 District Court judges
54 Circuit Court judges
3 Supreme Court justices
I started this little update in the late summer of 2017. The Republican Senate was wasting time and dragging its ass on getting judges confirmed. It had 52 senators (Luther Strange was appointed to replace Jeff Sessions and John McCain was still alive and sitting, not that that meant anything).
So I started posting frequently and then weekly in an attempt to put pressure on the slow-ass senators. I don't know if these posts had any influence but it kept us all updated.
Donald Trump has appointed 27% of the total judiciary. 33% of the Supreme Court, 30% of the Circuit courts and 26% of the District courts.
This is nothing to sneeze at, though many Freepers have commented along the lines of "so what?" since judges have been extremely reluctant to act regarding the election. And the Supreme Court itself caused a lot of the election chaos by declining to enforce the laws passed by the people through their legislatures.
The problem, however, is not with the courts. It is with the weak-in-the-knees elected Assemblies who like to pass the buck to the courts. In revolutionary times, it was the Assemblies that stood to resist tyranny, and in these times, elected Assemblies have become fearful of using the plenary power they hold.
The point is that the judges appointed by Donald Trump WILL reap dividends in the future, as they usually do beyond the administration that appointed them.
(continued below)
There will also be no more leftism coming from the 9th Circuit with TEN Trump judges now balancing out that court.
And every June we will not be so much on the edge of seats wondering whether 5 out of 9 people will "allow" us to govern ourselves. John Roberts has been playing the silly game of Anthony Kennedy and Sandra Day O'Connor before him. But unless he can convince Kavanaugh to rule his way here and there, he will be in the dissenting minority where he belongs (unless he wants to write the opinion, when he will vote with the majority). He's a man of no legal principles.
The Judiciary has been remade in the last four years. It's worth celebrating. The left has been (and will be) thoroughly thwarted. Its backup legislature (as they see it) has been repopulated. And as these judges settle in and feel their oats, we'll see many leftist gnashing their teeth and screaming as they will be forced to enact their agendas through elected officials, not appointed ones.
There's been a lot of talk of the "great reset" but it may already have happened.
We'll see.
In any event, I've enjoyed these every Saturday morning posts. They may continue, depending on what happens this Wednesday and on the 20th.
A wonderful summary. May we live in interesting times
Thanks for your efforts...it was fun to rack up victory after victory, at least in this area.
And by the way, if we lose Georgia, look for an immediate doubling of the number of Federal Judges, as the courts will be packed to end all remaining conservative influence.
Outside of Jimmy Carter, who became president when the judiciary was expanded significantly, President Trump has probably had the best first term of any presidency when it comes to judicial appointments.
Like you said, they will reap dividends for a very long time to come.
It will all be for not if a few morons here have their way on Tuesday.
The Democrats will pack the judiciary if they get complete control of the Senate.
We have more than a few Soros sucking morons openly advocating to give Schumer the ability to undo all the progress that we made over the past four years.
Well done, cotton. I’ve always enjoyed your updates.
How may judgeships are still open for the next President to fill?
There are currently 43 vacancies on the District courts, 2 on the Circuit courts.
Excellent work over these past few years - thanks.
Thank you for your hard work Cotton. We really enjoyed this project... and what it meant.
Just as importantly, how many positions still available that McConnel did not fill???
Also, based on today’s news posted earlier, the 9th is still running amuck... The communists of the 9th are far from contained...
Wrt the 9th and some of the others, it’s like we got 80-yards down the field and then fumbled the ball... How many points do we get for that?
Reminds me of the 1960’s when I was a rabid Redskin fan...
There were about 20 nominees in committee and on the floor that were awaiting votes. Most weren’t worth confirming. They were likely part of deals with democrats.
Thanks for the update...
Just 20 left behind is pretty good... In had thought if might be many dozens of remaining slots to be filled...
