Before the prevalence of video cameras virtually no cops were charged for shooting a civilian. They said a few magic words, and got off all the time.

Police unions resist rules requiring cameras for that reason.

Cops are as much civilians as the citizens they allegedly “protect by and serve”, self serving police delusions to the contrary notwithstanding.

My son’s 65 member p.d. couldn’t get the city council to spring for body cams. so the union bought one for every member. This was about ten years ago and the union has continued to replace them as needed.

They protect cops too. Do you have some examples where unions fought their use?
