West Point’s tolerance to cheating is unacceptable and disgusting.

I needed to remove a typo because it radically changed the meaning of one of my statements on a previous post. this is the corrected statement.

theses cadets should all be removed from west point and have to serve as enlisted for the remainder of there service. for every one of them going to school at west point there are 20 trying to get in. Anyone willing to cheat at west point can not be trusted to lead men into combat situations. We as a nation depend on are officer corp too have higher standard of behavior and to internalize things like integrity. the willingness to cheat to achieve a goal is indicative of an officers willingness to fallow illegal orders, there willingness to hand over control to civilian authority and understanding that it might mean standing against that civilian control when there control is counter to the constitutional restraints that are in place.

“They remain on the team because West Point Superintendent Lt. Gen. Darryl Williams suspended the school’s policy of barring cadets who violate the academy’s honor code from representing the school in public.”

I am surprised by this move of West Point favoring money over honor. Why would the General suspend this?

Furthermore, why has the U.S. Army allow this corruption at West Point?

Oh to send a message. The Army should for forfeit its entire season.

Give the trophy to Navy.

I bet an Obama General.

The military began to change under Obama. Remember him going after all the Patriots. Obama did not get all the higher ups, but he got a lot.

President Trump, shall he get a second term miracle, should clean up the mess and restore it back.

This happened under the General’s leadership. He should be busted and kicked out.

Remember Tailhook? The Navy Secretary was not in Vegas, but got the blame for it.

I lived under a strict honor code many years ago in college. Cheating was not something you wanted to do. If you cheated, it was best to make it a solo activity as the danger was “creating a pattern.” And that is what happened here.

Now, having witnessed this type of thing first hand I can tell you there is always one or two cadets who are the hub. They either have an old copy of a test or they went in and stole the new one. Yes, that happens.

I am sure that once those central figures are discovered, they would have gotten the boot from my school. The rest would probably fail the course, do a shit load of tours (marching for an hour with a firearm....back and forth on a strip about 25 yards across) and be restricted to your barracks (dorm room.) And if you were an athlete you would not be able to participate until the tours were worked off.

The issue with the tours is these tours would not be “forgiven.” And you could easily get 150 tours for something like this. Walking with a 1903 would become your part time job. Every day. For the entire semester—rain, snow, hot or cold. And in Vermont it was usually cold and snowing.

The sad part is that the professors and support staff would ALWAYS spend the time with you if you needed help. Most of the time they would “help you” by working on problems very close to those on the test.

These kids are simply “stupid.” There is no other explanation.

(The Honor Courts were usually staffed by Jocks as well. They would be pissed at underclassmen doing stuff this stupid. It was all run by the students. There was “little Mercy” for this crap.)

The only thing worse is being caught stealing. If you stole ANYTHING you would be off campus within 90 minutes—appeal and all.

Is West Point being lenient with the cheaters because they are athletes, because many of them are black, or both? Is West Point admitting black students and athletes who cannot pass calculus (the subject that they cheated on)?

The answer to your questions is in the article:

"Under academy policy, cadets found guilty of cheating would not have been allowed to play on sports teams after Nov 30, the date they were found in violation of the code.

But in an Oct. 23 memo, Williams wrote that the policy 'resulted in an inequitable application of consequences and developmental opportunities' for some cadets."

And yes, Lt. Gen. Darryl A. Williams is a brother, first and foremost, and above all else.

Football players taking mechanical engineering ?

If I recall correctly, in the old days (up until the mid 1970's), all cadets, including athletes, majored in engineering or a hard science.

At the Naval Academy all midshipmen are required to complete 1st year Calculus and 1st year Calculus based Physics and 1st year Chemistry. I don’t believe there are any exceptions. They should have went to one of the other schools so they could take “Grievance Studies for Athletes” as befitting their 5th grade reading level. College athletics needs to be reduced to the club level with minor league professional leagues for those who aren’t university level students.

Agree...The superintendent, and the US Army have now pissed on the Honor Code and officially condone cheating at West Point.

Next, ‘they’ will be honored for taking a knee at the Army Navy game.

The only saving grace is that LGen Williams is probably being put out to pasture. Superintendent of West Point is usually the last step prior to retirement. Commandant of Cadets, on the other hand, is usually for an up-and-comer within his peer group.

But you never know. Gen. Williams may get another job that comes with a 4th star now that Beijing Biden is entering the White House.

You are correct. The “Long Grey Line” is an excellent read about the class of 66 , [by Rick Atkinson].

No one who is a service academy graduate will be surprised by this. I graduated in the 80s from USAFA. Our football players were routinely coddled and exempted from anything harsh. You’d barely know they were part of your squadron. And almost the entire football team was caught in a cheating scandal back then, as well.
