I watched the 1975 Viet Namese evacuation up close while assigned to Hickam AFB, Hawaii. They arrived with either a suitcase or a sack. The first generation got on their feet, and the second generation is mainstream American. One of my friends smuggled his 20 year-old girlfriend out of Saigon in a mail sack on a C-141 in April 1975. She eventually got most of her extended family to the Los Angeles area. They are home and business owners, with several college graduates. I would like to ask this lady how the Viet Namese can succeed so quickly, starting from nothing. I would expect her to change the subject.
