Russia has been close to India for longer than that. If Chinese-Indian tensions increase, so will Chinese-Russian tensions.

Russia is also terrified of losing its far eastern provinces to Chinese influence. That's only going to increase if China really becomes top nation in the world.

An alliance between China and Russia against America isn't a big deal if America ceases to be a big deal.
