Whether we have excess deaths is not in question. People have absolutely died. To believe otherwise is to believe that every doctor, nurse, medical examiner, family member, funeral home, and cemetery are all engaged in some massive conspiracy with the government. That same government that couldn't launch a website to buy stuff (i.e. healthcare plans) suddenly is absolutely expert and perfect at a massive coordinated effort to deceive the 20% of the country not already actively engaged in this massive conspiracy? No.
The real question is WHY did all these people die? WHY did governors like Cuomo and Newsom force nursing homes to accept known-infected patients, knowing full-well that it was lead to mass numbers of deaths? WHY did none of these governors take any steps to secure elderly care facilities and ensure the safety of the residents once it became clear who was primarily going to die from this disease? WHY did they have no stockpiles of PPE ready for a pandemic to ensure hospital workers would be protected and able to keep working? WHY did they burn money on things like taking homeless people from living outdoors (classified as low risk for COVID by CDC) and put them indoors in hotels (classified as high risk for COVID by CDC)? WHY did they shut down most stores, causing panic-buying and thousands of bodies to get crammed into places like Costco and Walmart, spreading the disease like wildfire?
All these questions add up to tens if not hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths on the hands of those responsible. We should be holding people like Newsom and Cuomo and others accountable for their criminally negligent homicides and failed policies and resulted in so many of our fellow Americans dying needlessly.
