I very much doubt she was his girlfriend. The man was a recluse and thirty four years her senior. I think he liked her, I suspect that she barely knew he existed.

This story reminded me of the Las Vegas shooter, and his Australian national girlfriend. I just did a search, and found an article from 2018 that claimed Marilou Danley may have been an FBI asset. I don't remember hearing about that.
