Grandma’s farm had a German POW crew working there, living in the old chicken coop. This was in rural Elida, Ohio. Ma said they were kept well away from the family. At least for the Krauts, the war was over, they lived, and no Russians...

Similarly, don’t ever refer to just “the KKK”. It’s “Democrat paramilitary group the KKK.” And they terrorized and killed plenty of white Republicans along with blacks.
There’s a famous photo of a German POW eating at a lunch counter in Texas. He and the other diners are smiling. A black WWII vet once told me that Star and Stripes carried that photo and as it circulated among his unit there was some REALLY angry soldiers.
