Let's start in 2000. That year, former Texas Gov. George W. Bush absolutely annihilated Democrat Al Gore in Texas, winning 59.3% of the vote to Gore's 37.9%. Bush won by 1.3 million votes of about 6 million cast.
Bush crushed Democrat John Kerry in 2004, 61.1% to 38.2%. That time he won by nearly 1.7 million votes of some 7 million ballots cast.
But things began to change when Barack Obama ran for president. While the late Sen. John McCain defeated the Democrat in 2008, he got just 55.4% of the vote to Obama's 43.6%. And McCain won by fewer than 1 million votes of about 8 million ballots cast.
Utah Sen. Mitt Romney took the margin back above that million-vote mark, defeating Obama in Texas by more than 1.2 million votes of about 8 million ballots cast as he took the state by 57.1% to 41.3%.
Yet President Trump couldn't match those numbers in 2016. He won 52.1% to Democrat Hillary Clinton's 43.1%. And he won by slightly more than 800,000 votes of some 8.5 million cast.
Things got worse in 2020, when Trump got 52.1% of the vote to Joe Biden's 46.5%. While a win, his margin was just more than 600,000 votes — of nearly 11 million cast.
You read that right: 11 million. That's double the number of votes cast in the state in 1996.

They stole the election. They can do whatever they want now.
Only after the Dems bankrupt the government.
Left out of the discussion is that Trump got the highest percentage of the vote in New York for any Republican since Reagan.
Seems to me that after farce of 11/3/2020 it won’t happen even if TX turns blue or if it stays red.
Or, enough Commiefornians move there.
Yes is the short answer.
the real question is why we insist on having a Right and a Left hand of the deep state.
Somehow this doesn’t sound like a state that is going to secede from the US in the next four years....
Maybe. But what good does it do anybody if that Republican is of the Mitt Romney, Juan McCainez or Liz Cheney variety?
There will only be a couple of red states in ten years...
Without Trump the GOP is useless at the federal level..the GOP thinks they can keep the 70 million Trump voters...will never happen
Democrats have invaded a lot of red states in the last twenty years...
Started invading Colorado in the 1990s...now it is like California..
Better quesiton: If the SC won’t do their stinkin job, can the republicans ever win again legally?
Hispanics in huge electoral states are the key..They are the Majority minority group in the dem party, yet are treated like the wicked stepchild...In California ,it was the Hispanic vote that shot down affirmative action for blacks in that state...When Hispanics become the ballot counters, they will demand a bigger piece of the pie from dems..You don’t give it to them and oops the votes all went to republicans....
Absolutely true. They might allow a Republican in every now and then just to pretend its not rigged. But only if they are a Hope deep state creature. My gut tells me that except for Reagan and Trump, they were all fixed going back a long time.
Texas is no different than any other state. Small, blue enclaves of urban squalor surrounded by patriots. I live in a county of about 225,000. During the run-up to the election, I saw exactly three Bidet signs. There are still hundreds of Trump signs and flags around here.
Hispanics are the key..65+ million vs 45+ million for blacks..They are set to oust blacks as the “favored” minority in the dem party... All they need is another 30-40 million coming across the border and they are set to rule the dem party...WHETHER BLACKS LIKE IT OR NOT....
Who cares?
If Texas turns blue, it’s all over anyway.
There’s no point in discussing any electorate now.
All of it is meaningless, the winner is always pre-determined for any race that matters.
37.8% Yay? It is not even true though. GWB got 40% in 2004, and GB the Elder got 47% in 1988.
Not just an election, they stole a freaking landslide!
It’s election fraud in Harris and Austin counties.
Cruz almost got beat by Beto in 2016 but Abbot got 1.3 or so million votes. Supposedly Democrats would come out in force to vote for Beto but not for the Democrat candidate for governor.
Same thing happened with Trump in 2020 with State politicians getting vastly more votes than him.
It’s all coming out of Harris and Austin counties. Trump made the red counties even redder by millions of votes. If not for that, Trump would have lost with the votes out of Harris and Austin turning the state blue if Republican turnout in 2016 and 2018 remained the same.
Trump also turned blue counties red or purple, counties with majority Hispanic populations.
But supposedly, Biden takes these two counties with such a surge that he would have won the state in previous elections.
It’s fraud, pure and simple, relegated, as usual, to these big cities with Dems in control of the election process.
