White Coat Supremacy Christmas

Dr. Anthony Fauci turns 80 tonight, on Christmas Eve, but by early December he was already gearing up for the occasion. Nobody wanted to modify or shut down the holiday season, Fauci told reporters, but “we’re at a very critical time . . . we’ve got to not walk away from the facts and the data. This is tough going for all of us.”

Dr. Fauci did not recall his constantly shifting views on masks, social distancing and so forth. Nobody asked him about the dangerous “gain of function” research the longtime National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases boss had authorized, nor the funds NIAID channeled to the Wuhan Institute of Virology. The longtime NIAID boss only addressed the holidays, and his Coronavirus Task Force colleague Dr. Deborah Birx also got in the act.

“We cannot go into the holiday season, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, with the same kind of attitude, that those gatherings don’t apply to me,” Birx told reporters. “They apply to everybody.” It had not yet emerged that Birx had violated her own guidelines with a post-Thanksgiving trip to a vacation home with family from two households. As Birx and Fauci locked down Christmas, another white-coat type was casting a darker shadow far beyond the holidays.

“Older populations are whiter. Society is structured in a way that enables them to live longer. Instead of giving additional health benefits to those who already had more of them, we can start to level the playing field a bit.”

That was Dr. Harald Schmidt of the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Schmidt, who identifies as an “ethicist,” did not explain how, exactly, society had been structured in a way that makes “whiter” people live longer. By implication, blacker people do not live longer, which ignores some rather high-profile cases.

Born in Baltimore on February 7, 1887, Eubie Blake was a professional pianist by age 16. In 1921 Blake collaborated with Noble Sissle on Shuffle Along, a runaway hit and the first Broadway musical with an all-black cast. On March 10, 1979, at the age of 92, Eubie Blake appeared on “Saturday Night Live” and performed “I’m Just Wild About Harry,” and “I’m Just Simply Full of Jazz,” both from Shuffle Along. That same year Blake, a lifelong smoker, made cameo appearances in Eubie! a musical celebration of his life.

Contrast Eubie Blake with Porgy and Bess composer George Gershwin, who passed away on July 11, 1937, at the age of only 38. That defies Dr. Schmidt’s pronouncement that “whiter” people live to advanced age because society is structured to enable them. That might also surprise African American actress Cicely Tyson, who turned 96 on December 19.

As Dr. Schmidt should know, with so many variables in play, there is no color pattern to longevity. And as African American economist Thomas Sowell, 90, has often observed, statistical disparities between groups and individuals are the rule, not the exception.

Nobody controls their own skin color but Dr. Schmidt appears to believe that a pale shade is an automatic demotion to second-class humanity. So when it comes to vaccine, the doctor wants elderly “whiter” folks at the end of the line. Most troubling is Dr. Schmidt’s belief that medical professionals should “level the playing field a bit.” As Victor Davis Hanson wonders, why only level a bit? “Why not ‘lots,” like denying them COVID-19 vaccinations in timely fashion.” And why stop with vaccinations?

Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, a Biden medical adviser who identifies as a “bioethicist,” is on record that “this manic desperation to endlessly extend life is misguided and potentially destructive. For many reasons, 75 is a pretty good age to stop.” That cancels Cicely Tyson and Thomas Sowell but Dr. Emanuel must make exceptions for Anthony Fauci, Nancy Pelosi, Dianne Feinstein, Bernie Sanders, and Joe Biden his own self.

The Delaware Democrat is only 78 but often unsure of his location. He puts truth over facts, cranks up the record player, and tells African Americans who don’t support him they “ain’t black.” The addled Biden may also be ignorant of Dr. Schmidt’s belief that society has been structured in a way that enables older “whiter” people to live longer. So the doctor assigns the pale aged to the back of the line for the vaccine, just to level the playing field “a bit.” That has nothing to do with medical science but it is revealing.

It was President Trump who accelerated the vaccine through Operation Warp Speed. Anybody of any age could believe that Dr. Schmidt is just plain warped. The vaunted “ethicist” peddles the racist Lysenkoism that lies at the heart of white coat supremacy, a success at controlling the people but a bust at curbing or preventing a pandemic.

Thanks to doctors Fauci and Birx, embattled Americans must endure a white coat supremacy Christmas. Thanks to doctors Schmidt and Emanuel, staying safe in 2021 and beyond will be harder than anyone imagined.

Nobody mentions the fact that after almost a year of the authorities telling us to wear masks, social distance and lockdown in our homes, which didn't work to stop the virus, that when the numbers shoot up, that they decide to double down on the same ineffective solutions that didn't work year-to-date so far.

Do they think we're stupid or what?

First, the way the number of cases and deaths for the virus have been so politically manipulated, I don't believe the current claims of huge increases in new cases and deaths. A little too convenient for me.

And second, why would doing the same thing that didn't work before, lead to any different outcomes? They won't.

This whole pandemic thing has gone from a simple "flatten the curve" for two weeks last spring to a full-blown "let's control the population" by destroying their lives and the economy. No Thanksgiving. No Christmas. No jobs. We may have to do this for another year or two or maybe forever? No way.

Anybody else get the feeling we are being given the old BOHICA treatment here? "Bend Over Here It Comes Again" by the authoritarian Left? You betcha.

And all of this for a virus that 99.9% of the people who get sick from it, will recover and survive with no problem.
