Maybe so. I really have a hard time generating any sympathy for these military contractors operating in a war zone like this, though. They willingly go into a situation where the U.S. government uses them specifically to ensure they can operate outside military oversight AND legal protection.
Mattis the Warrior Monk, wasn’t as smart as people made him to be. Look at his career, what is he known for? Talk. Sensationalism.
The Haditha and this Blackwater incident can be distilled down to ONE sentence:
In counterinsurgency operations, it is THE PEOPLE that must kill the insurgency, and it must be done with urgency.
That friends, is the failure of Mattis and everyone else not named Odierno.
well made point!
It’s about time!
They should also get financial compensation...
They are innocent...
In a place like Iraq, how the heck are you supposed to know who is a civilian, and who is an enemy combatant?
It’s not like the enemy wears uniforms, or anything like that.
These guys weren’t rookies, they were professionals and acted accordingly. The left hates combat contractors and went after them with every dirty dead in the book. I am very glad they were pardoned.
If there wasn't a war with Iraq this would not have happened. I don't know the full story but it's not uncommon for the opposition to hide among civilians.
