The Facebook-owned social-media giant "Instagram” is characterizing “well-established criticisms” of Joe Biden and his 1994 crime bill as “False,” reports blogger Glenn Greenwald.
A post on the platform “said nothing more than what Biden’s chosen running mate, Kamala Harris, has herself said” — namely, that the ’94 law “contributed to the mass incarceration of Americans generally and African Americans specifically.”
Indeed, many “media outlets, criminal-justice experts and politicians from both parties” have said the same.
Yet Instagram plastered a “False” label on the post, saying it had “no basis in fact.” A tech giant declaring someone “a disseminator of disinformation for voicing long-standing and well-documented criticisms of” Biden is a scary preview of “a future in which unseen tech overlords police our discourse by unilaterally arbitrating truth and falsity, decree what are permissible and impermissible ideas and rigidly impose the boundaries of acceptable debate.”

What starts out as virtue signaling and jingles like "stamp out systemic racism," "equality for all," and "tolerance" ends up as a vehicle by which corporations and political parties can accumulate power.
The almost funny aspect of this (were it not so deadly) is that the corporations and political parties falling into this trap don't realize who it was who set the trap in the first place.

America’s blue bloods fell easily to China’s leveraging of insatiable Western appetites for power, influence, and money.

And, as I recall, the audience listening to Prof Di Dongsheng’s speech laughed out loud and slapped their knees as he regaled them with stories of how easy it was to seduce American elites.
As an aside, it is hard for folks raised in totalitarian societies like China to get their minds around cultures like ours.
If they think the U.S. is going to be this easy to conquer, they are overlooking some features of representative cultures that are not going to be so easy to seduce...or knee-slapping funny.
They have picked the low hanging fruit (the Democrats, academics, and wealthy elites). The remainder of Americans, the Deplorables, are cranky, independent, and war-like.;-)
