Nadav Shragai writes this week:
With Israel’s coronavirus numbers on the rise and the government poised to instate a policy of rigorous restrictions, the worst kept secret in the country is that the Temple Mount as turned into “Corona Mount.”
Some 18,000 people crowd into the compound every Friday, many without masks. … Then they go back to their neighborhoods in east Jerusalem or Arab communities in Israel, where they infect many more. In east Jerusalem, 14% of COVID tests are coming back positive. In Issawiya, it’s 17.5%. In Kafr Aqab, 23%, and in the Shuefat refugee camp — 50%. Of the 23 neighborhoods in Jerusalem coded red under the Health Ministry’s stoplight plan, 12 — which are home to 320,000 people — are Arab.
The high rate of new cases in Jerusalem’s Arab sector are not contained there. Arabs comprise 71% of salaried workers in the city’s construction center, and 57% of public transportation workers. According to the Jerusalem Institute for Policy Research, in regular times some 35,000 of them work in Jewish neighborhoods.
The Temple Mount has become a hotbed of COVID infection at a level that is hard to grasp.
Two Fridays ago, Israeli police used loudspeakers to tentatively encourage Muslims on the Temple Mount to socially distance and use masks — which resulted in a backlash.
But being frightened of angry worshippers isn’t a reason to abdicate responsibility for the welfare of both Jews and Arabs in Jerusalem.
..................
So let the muslims in without masks and let them take their chances. If they get sick, they get sick. Their body, their choice.
So many deeply religious people seem unable to accept the notion of the existence of viruses.
What utter B.S. they just want to keep Jews from praying at their most holy place, while the Muslim livestock can graze freely there.
Yep. We were told we couldn’t even appear like we were praying on there or all hell would break loose.
Virus does not spread at Palestinian funeral or riots
I don’t think they don’t believe in viruses. I thik the believe that a less than 1% death rate isn’t worth letting government have the power to stop worshipping at your church, temple or mosque.
50% increase in youth mortality is no big deal. Who cares? They were going to croak eventually.
I guess that depends on real numbers. Is the 50% rise “Was 20 deaths now it is 30? Or 2 million and now its 3 million?”
It also depends where your data originated. Is it trust worthy? My daughter is an emergency room nurse who’s observation has been that a heroine overdose can be counted as a covid death. A motorcycle accident can be counted as covid death. These are anecdotal but I’ve read such accounts across our country. Could they have the same issue in Israel?
My point is when are you willing to give up your freedom? Today it’s wear a mask. Abandon your job and be locked down in your house. Meanwhile politicians are going about their lives as they see fit. Mandatory injections. Where do you draw the line?
At what price freedom?
99.9% of people survive a traffic accident, yet so many are willing to give up their freedom by wearing seat-belts. COWARDS, I SAY!
But are they willing to give up driving?
50% of people that go in for an abortion die. Mandate the end of abortion.
