The most valuable lessons of 'Home Alone' require a little living first. The film offers much more than just Kevin McCallister vs. The Wet Bandits.
Finally, after putting in our time, we were released to the basement.
Through what little childhood patience we possessed, me, my sister, and my cousins had satisfied The Rule in force at every family gathering at Grandma and Grandpa Lawson’s house: Before you can leave the table after dinner, you first have to sit quietly for at least 15 minutes or talk about “boring” things with the adults.
That was The Rule — for all we knew, it had been set in place and carved in stone by Nana L. since the dawn of time. Any unjustified movement before the time was up could jeopardize the whole rest of the evening and doom you to having to remain at the dinner table while adults discussed trade deficits and life insurance for all eternity.
So we waited, paid our dues, received a knowing nod of approval from dad, and speed-walked downstairs to the “rec room,” which had the television, the VCR, and the only kid-friendly VHS tape my grandparents had in stock: “Home Alone.”

Babe is 25 and a much better movie.
Die Hard is better.
Die Hard is the best!!!
I always thought HA was lame.
The cameo appearance of President Trump in the first one is kind of cool.
If it’s from the Federalist it has to be wrong.
“I always thought HA was lame.”
I would rather watch HA because it had a good genuine message about it. Would you rather watch leftard fag crap in today’s movies??
HA is for the parents and kids. The true guys in the family watch Die Hard in another room. Actually we vote around this time of the year and TOMBSTONE comes next after Die Hard.
Also try christmas story. Good ol classic.
For me nothing beats A Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim.
BTW the original version was shown in German Movie theaters in 1956 and was titled "Die Trapp Familie" (The Trapp Family) Staring Ruth Leuwerick as Maria Von Trap
When I grew up in Germany Ruth Leuwerick was my favorite German Actress. (Tony Curtis was my favorite American Actor)
Yikes, BTW Home alone was not my favorite Christmas movie.
Boycott Hollywood.
My grandson loved to watch Schreck (sp> when he was little. He wanted to watch it over and over. I had to laugh many times, It was just to cute.
I thought he was in the second one - the one that takes place in New York.
It was a lame movie 30 years ago and a lame movie now.
Nor mine. To qualify as a “favorite” (IMHO) it needs to be one that bears watching multiple times. For me that pretty much means: “A Christmas Story” (You’ll shoot your eye out) and “It’s a Wonderful Life”.
Man, how old am I.... I have seen VCRs and video cassettes come and go. Not to mention laserdiscs.... and even to a large extent DVDs and BluRays.... And movies I have seen in theaters (remember theaters?) are now showing on TCM....
Babe is a much better movie.
