Italy has joined the Netherlands and Belgium in banning air travel from the UK due to fears over the new strain of coronavirus. The move comes after Dutch health authorities confirmed at least one case of the same variant that has prompted London and large parts of southeast England to return to lockdown rules.

Germany is also understood to be considering action, with a German government official telling the dpa news agency that restrictions on flights from Britain are a “serious option”.

Let's put a different spin on this for a moment. Whether or not we decide to take the vaccine, no one expected a vaccine in less than one year. It is like deciding to send astronauts to Mars in January and launching them safely on their journey by the end of the year.
Trump's "Operation Warp Speed" completely upended the apple cart on this one. They have about 3 months to have their mayhem before having to move on to something else entirely. Whether by inoculation or infection, Covid-19 is defeated and that was not an expected victory in that kind of time frame. I would suspect that they thought they were going to be able to get rid of National distinctions altogether in the decade long battle expected against Covid-19. All that is down the toilet now, completely disrupted by Trump.
Think of it this way. At the beginning of this we were all going to die in line waiting for a respirator. That didn't last long. Same thing for the vaccine where our loved ones and ourselves would most likely die waiting on the "gold standard" of solutions, the vaccine, and turn around and the vaccine is already here. Game over. Well done DJT!
The new British strain makes people get drunk and beat up fans of opposing soccer teams?
Well we have different strains of the flu every year so it makes sense.
