Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin added her voice to the growing chorus of conservative figures favoring a pardon of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
“I made a mistake some years ago, not supporting Julian Assange — thinking that he was a bad guy… I’ve learned a lot since then,” said Palin in a short video posted online.
WikiLeaks and Palin were once at odds, the former publishing leaked emails from the latter during the 2008 presidential campaign when Palin was the Republican candidate for vice president.
But Palin appears to have moved on from that incident, offering an unequivocal call for President Donald Trump to use the presidential pardon on behalf of Assange.
Palin said that Assange ultimately worked “on the people’s behalf to allow information to get to us so that we could make up our minds about different issues.”
“He deserves a pardon. He deserves all of us to understand more about what he has done in the name of real journalism, and that’s getting to the bottom of issues that the public really needs to hear about and benefit from,” said the former Alaska governor.
Palin joins a range of figures from across the political spectrum calling for Assange to be pardoned. These include Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), and congresswoman-elect Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican who will represent Georgia’s 14th district in the next U.S. Congress.
Fox News host Tucker Carlson has also weighed in, defending the work of WikiLeaks as legitimate journalism. In a segment on Carlson’s show, Assange’s fiancée, Stella Morris, urged President Trump not to let Assange fall into the hands of the deep state.

It’s not great. if she doesn’t’t want to take on Murkowski in 22’ she’s done in my book. it’s getting bad.
Murkowski is unbeatable in Alaska . They even wrote her in. They love her, sadly.
Bottom line is Murkowski brings home the pork, in the end, that’s all that matters to voters.
You bet
Int it astonishing? The pro-abortion globalist establishment types are now the war-mongers.
I think she holds their feet to the fire for their monthly check.
the unbeatable candidate has never won a majority of the vote in any general election.
They wrote her in when she lost the GOP Nomination!
I haven’t followed for a while but she is not going anywhere sadly.
Did they write her in, or did Dominion count her in?
or maybe it’s because Alaska leads the nation in alcoholism and mental illness.
I believe they actually did write her in and it was verified.
Very rare this happens and shows you she is safe unless retiring.
I remember. That does not change the fact that she has never once registered a majority of the vote in the general election.
so, every time she has been elected to the senate, more people has voted against her than for her. that’s the walking definition of vulnerable.
just don’t run a whack job in the primary, and put all the libertarians in detention camps for the general. Presto!
No one decent or well known there would take her on ... It’s a thankless task.
In the past, whenever Sarah was getting close to regaining her footing in a manner of political influence, either one of her two oldest children would do something stupid, violent, hypocritical or all of the above.
I can see why Todd finally chose to step off of that dysfunctional Merry-Go-Round. I like Sarah, but she has made it too easy to disregard whatever she says if one doesn’t wish to hear it. Maybe she’s ready to settle down.
The Assange charges and imprisonment have been a travesty. Palin is completely right to speak up now.
In ‘22 we must focus on OPEN primaries and OPEN seats (if there are any) and concentrate resources on those candidates...
Incumbents are rarely knocked off and Senate campaigns are expensive..
Rand is also up in ‘22 so that should also be a priority (he is safe but will need money!).
So, maybe that’s it. She wants to be a Kingmaker or Influencer.
Why so many on FR can't seem to separate ideas from people, I'll never figure out why. Mix in some of the perfect being the enemy of the good stuff too, I shake my head.
separating ideas from people would interfere with one if FR’s favorite spectator sports; omnidirectional blame.
What a ticket the pair of them would make!
