Actually, most people don't go to jail for their fist DUI as long as nobody got hurt.
Jail time for a first DUI where there are no other people impacted and the level of intoxication is not very high is quite unusual.
I do know a single person who received jail time for a first offense DUI. Let’s concentrate on the real issues.

No - they do not. My daughter in law's dad (who is a real piece of work and who she does not have a relationship with) has a friend who has had FOUR DUIs.
He has not had any jail time. They have all been pled down to reckless driving or some other infraction. He is not a politician - but he IS a member of La Familia (a sub-chapter of the Los Carnales police motorcycle cub).
So - he has walked FOUR times from it - because of a friendly DA - a family with a little money - and connections with COPS. He's a good conservative republican good 'ol boy.
