We would hate to see the Federal Government shutdown and the employees go without pay. Especially as those same employees seek to keep main street businesses shut down.

Any "public servant" dictating a shutdown of the private sector should forgo their government pay.

They never go without pay... they may not get paid during the shutdown when there is one but they get it back.

Shutdown big bureaucracies, not small businesses.

We just needed two days' pay to fix everything?
The check is in the mail?

I’m a federal employee—I’ve been through about 4 shutdowns in the past 26 years; sometimes I’ve been deemed “essential” and I work without pay initially, and sometimes I’ve been deemed “nonessential” and I don’t work, also without pay initially. Once I was nonessential for a few weeks and then essential later on during the shutdown. Either way, in the past the pay would come later—but sometimes weeks later.

Since at least some (maybe many?) federal employees live paycheck to paycheck (I think 1/3 of people in the US don’t have more than $300 in a checking account), I think legislation was passed (not sure—I guess I’ll find out if we shutdown on Mon) so that feds would still be paid rather than file for unemployment with their state (which would be approved typically AFTER the shutdown was over).

I’m retired federal employee.. DoD side and have been there done that hence my statement.

On the civilian employment side I get it. What should happen anytime there’s a federal government shutdown, congress and these idiot so called leaders in state governments mandating shutdowns of businesses should all forfeit their pay and give it to the employees and businesses.

Course most of these azzhats have enough $$ they’d never feel it to begin with.

“He should have refused to sign, and shut the damn thing down.”

The entire federal government is against We the People. Shut it down and that would seem appropriate.

The fact that we need to keep doing this one and two week budgets demonstrates just how F***ed up Congress is.

There are some schizophrenic people on free republic. They want the president to veto the defense bill, and shut down the department of defense. And then in the next breath they say they want to use the military to overturn the elections.

Fedzilla does NOT shut down.

Ever.

Most of it is deemed essential and stays functioning.

The federal employees are always ready to step up to the media microphones with their sob stories but much later a followup says “Agreed to in the compromise was full back pay for employees during the shutdown.”

And who was the last DC elite member who went hungry and was homeless for losing shutdown days’ pay? Never happened. Like tattoo places, liquor stores and abortion places during a Dem governor’s lockdown, these elite politicians are “essential.”
