NBC Opinion: Trump's toilet obsession is a metaphor for years of flushing climate progress down the drain
NBC News / Comcast ^ | December 19, 2020 | By Michael E. Mann

Throughout his presidency, President Donald Trump seemed to consider himself better suited for a throne than the Oval Office. But judging by his all-hours tweeting, it’s possible the only throne he could find was made of porcelain. So perhaps it's no surprise that after spending four years denying climate change and rolling back environmental protections, one of his last moves as his administration circles the drain is to mandate that showers and dishwashers be allowed to use excessive amounts of water.

Unlike his regulatory rollbacks at the Environmental Protection Agency, where the polluters who helped elect Trump simply handed him a wish list that the former lobbyists he hired to run the government tried to grant, Trump totally owns this anti-environmental move. It is Trump alone who has been obsessed with the allegedly low water flow from showers and toilets.

Refusing to be distracted by a climate crisis that has given us apocalyptic wildfires, a devastating hurricane season, a raging pandemic that has taken hundreds of thousands of lives and a massive economic recession, Trump and his Republican enablers have kept their eyes on the prize: luxury, water-wasting showerheads.

The contrast with the incoming Biden administration couldn't be more stark. With an all-star tag team of Gina McCarthy and John Kerry ready to start cleaning up emissions at home and abroad, one can already begin to feel four years of Trumpian climate denial and deregulation begin to wash away — no high-flow showerhead required.

Not all of the damage done by four years of Trump can easily be undone. If nothing else, we’ve lost precious time in the race to limit carbon emissions below dangerous levels. But it’s not too late to avert the worst impacts of climate change. The hard work starts now.

If the determination is that C02 is the problem, then getting onboard to nuke energy is the absolute decision. Once you say that you can’t use nuke energy to reach this level, then the whole discussion is null and void.

You don’t need juveniles or half-wits like Kerry to carry on this discussion.

” that showers and dishwashers be allowed to use excessive amounts of water.”?
Be allowed?
When has it become the gub mints job to tell you how to take a shower or use a dishwasher?
Started when the gub mint mandated you WILL use a seat belt.
What business is it of the mookabooking gub mint to tell you how to do any damned thing.
Build roads, do policing and stay the hell out of folks business.

Unfortunately the discussion is not null and void, given the number of people in power pushing these ideas. Which would take living standards back 4-5 decades, i strongly believe.

distinguished professor

Distinguished indeed. A liar, a fraud and one of the original conspirators in the global warming hoax. Truly a nasty piece of work all around.

Why do the management here allow left-wing fiction to be republished here? There are so many communist news outlets to do that.

“So perhaps it’s no surprise that after spending four years denying climate change...”

This is how they lie. They interchange “man made climate change” with earth’s normal “climate change”.

Few would deny that the Earth’s climate changes, the dispute is by calling it man made.

10,000 years ago there were glaciers in North America and the Sahara Desert was a lust grassland.

Outside of (relatively) small urban areas man has done little to change the climate.

Yes I agree that earth’s climate is changing, but I don’t agree man has anything to do with that change, nor to I believe we should all be regulated back into caves to solve a problem that does not exist.

This idiocy is not based on logic. Global warming is ONLY A THEORY NOT A FACT. And if they’re worried about too much CO2, the they need to get on the asses of the countries that are destroying the Amazon forests and the forests in Africa and demand that they stop because these equatorial areas are the largest heat sink, CO2 eating areas in the world. Anything done by us is peanuts in comparison. YET you NEVER hear a word about this! They just allow the destruction of these CO2 areas continue.

I am studying third world barter tactics and those of non sanitary food prep, zero sewerage system for home and community, how to load 500lbs of any item on a crappy 50cc scooter, oh and oddly most the links on this research lead to Democrat lead States.

They got the best up to date third world info.

Yeah, ok. We are running out of water?? I don’t think so - you idiot.

Your stupidity to limit how much we use to flush or bathe with that is in a constant cycle since The Flood is symbolic of your tyrannical power lust.

The destruction leads to elite property development income streams.

One of the inner-most ring members, driving “global warming” and other leftist “critical theories,” is:

Just like the left wanting EVIDENCE of voter fraud I put the same question to Mr. Mann. Where is the EVIDENCE of manmade climate change? Where is the PROOF?? In 50 years of climate hysteria I have yet to see 1 iota of EVIDENCE or PROOF that manmade climate change is real.

No, the manmade climate change is just another way for grifters and con artists to make a fortune on the back of gullible taxpayers.
