FDA authorizes Moderna coronavirus vaccine for emergency use across the US
The Guardian (UK) ^ | 18 Dec 2020 | Jessica Glenza

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized a vaccine developed by Moderna...

The vaccine’s emergency authorization brings the second drug to prevent Covid-19 to the American public within a week, and millions of doses are expected to begin immediate distribution to health workers and long-term care residents...

Pfizer’s vaccine, the first to prevent Covid-19 authorized in the US last week, uses the same technology. Both companies are expected to apply for full approval for the vaccines in the coming months. Federal authorities hope to vaccinate 20 million people before the end of the year...

Moderna’s vaccine holds at least two distinct advantages over the first vaccine. It needs to be refrigerated, but does not require the ultra-cold -70C (-94F) required by Pfizer’s vaccine. That means the vaccine could be easier to transport in rural areas, and less susceptible to wastage. Further, Moderna’s data shows its vaccine appears to protect people against severe Covid-19, when it does not prevent the disease...

Moderna’s vaccine brings to 300 million the number of potential doses to be administered to high-risk populations, 200 million of which Moderna is contracted to provide to the federal government.

Because each vaccine requires a two-dose “booster” regimen, that means the US will have enough doses to immunize 150 million people..

The Moderna vaccine was found to be more than 94% effective at preventing Covid-19, in a trial of more than 30,000 patients. Moderna’s scientists said there were two allergic reactions in its trial, one in the placebo arm and another in a vaccine recipient.

In the vaccine arm, the allergic reaction was more than 60 days after the participant received the vaccine, and was found to be related to a separate medical procedure.

Moderna shots start Monday, with six million doses being delivered next week.

"Moderna is relying primarily on subcontracted manufacturers to produce millions of doses of its vaccine."

Catalent, a contract manufacturing facility in Bloomington, Indiana (VP Pence's home State), is manufacturing 500,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine per day, and is ramping up to produce a million per day in the coming weeks.

Along with Phizer, about ten million doses are being delivered next week.

We are off to the races, for the biggest mass immunization program in human history.

Trump-scale, at Trump-speed.

Pfizer’s vaccine is about 95% effective on people over 64 whereas Moderna’s vaccine comes in at 86% effective for those over 64. Obviously, if you have a choice it makes sense to get the Pfizer shot. Just some info for those who are getting the shot.

What dosage are they recommending as a preventative. How often do you have to repeat it.

only picking on ya slightly. If you’re over 70, those percentages fall to about 92% and if you’re over 80, it’s 86%. I get your point for folks who are basically under 60 and healthy.

I ordered Ivermectin from Amazon - it shipped and “was returned for some reason” and will not be delivered so they’re refunding me.
Where are you getting yours from?

Where did you get the lower effectivity for those over 64 with the Moderna vs the Pfizer vaccine? I read this article and didn’t see it. I have read many articles as I am a participant in the Moderna trial and thus have a vested interest in seeing if it’s successful, which so far looks very good. Looking forward to being unblinded to see if I’m already vaccinated or not.

I heard it on the Joe Pags Show. It’s all over the internet. phillyvoice.com. New England Journal of Medicine. Moderna is only 86% effective in the over 64 groups.

Based on the limited number of actual cases I believe that number will improve as time goes on. Only 5 out of 15000 vaccinated had any symptoms, thus it must have been 2 or 3 in the over 65 demographic (which would imply the overall 94% effectiveness was even higher for those under 65). The numbers will smooth out over time.

You are correct about the higher number of the under 65 group numbers from what I have read.

There will be statistical bumps with these small numbers.

Scroll down a bit until you get to the graphics which have both the protocol for prophylaxis and for infection treatments.

I also ordered from Amazon. Amazon tracking says it shipped on the 16th but USPS tracking says it hasn't been received at their facility yet. Still shows it is due to arrive between the 29th or Jan. 4th. No indication, yet, that they won't ship it.

Here is a company that sells it for half the price and shipping is free if they deliver to a store and you pick it up. Just need a store nearby. At half the price you could pay the shipping to your house and come out the same as Amazon. They seem to be jacking up prices at Amazon rather quickly too.

Hope they can help you.
