Still No COVID-19 Relief Bill As U.S. Congress Faces Shutdown Deadline

WASHINGTON: The U.S. Congress looked increasingly unlikely on Friday to meet a deadline to agree on $900 billion in fresh COVID-19 aid and instead may pass a third stopgap spending bill to keep the government from shutting down at midnight.

... Congressional leaders plan to pass the COVID-19 aid as part of sweeping legislation to fund the government through September 2021.

... Sticking points in the talks include differences over a Federal Reserve emergency lending program, how to handle eviction prevention, food aid for the poor, and reimbursements to local governments for expenses like personal protective equipment for schools.

This deal could have been done months ago if there had been even an ounce of compromise. Sure, Pelosi shoulders a lot of the blame, but it really goes across the aisle. They’re all bad, the fat-cat politicians who couldn’t care less about the little people. Heck, most of them probably can’t wait to get out of town and back to their warm mansions and their Christmas feasts, while millions of ordinary Americans are in imminent danger of eviction, not to mention drained bank accounts and maxed out credit cards. Mitch and Nanzi and Upchuck couldn’t give a damn.

I’m sorry, but my attitude has changed these past few months. It’s business as usual in the Congress. Our dear president has not succeeded in draining the swamp. It’s as deep as ever.

I agree with most of that - but if Americans run up credit card debt, that’s not Trump’s fault.

I meant the people who ran up their debt for necessary living expenses, like food etc., not entertainment or other luxuries.

The thing that really got to me was seeing a story of a family whose landlord somehow was able to cut off their heat. The parents lost their jobs to the lockdowns and they were months behind in their rent and being evicted. They were all bundled up and gathered around a large electric space heater and the temperature inside their home that morning was 32 degrees.

Okay, so maybe there was more to the story, but still, heartbreaking to see.
For whatever reasons, a majority of adult Americans really have very little financial resources to cover a nine-month shutdown. Unemployment benefits in many states are meager. Here in California, low income unemployed get a maximum of $167 a week. That’s nothing, with the cost of living here so high.

Mitch should try to pass a separate eviction moratorium extension at least. There’s a lot of public sentiment for that. Five million people being tossed on the street will be a human catastrophe.

Can you blame them? After all, the credible threat of violence resulted in the Supreme Court throwing out the Texas challenge to the election.

All Pelousy cared about was orchestrating the USPS to aid in the fraudulent FAKE ELECTION.
She doesn’t give a damn about everyday Americans.
And every fricken Bill has to have her agenda needs attached.
