WASHINGTON — Vice President Mike Pence received the Covid-19 vaccine in a televised appearance Friday morning in an effort to promote its safety and boost public confidence in its effectiveness.
The Pfizer vaccine was also given to his wife, Karen Pence, and Surgeon General Jerome Adams in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building near the the White House by a medical team from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
"I didn't feel a thing. Well done," Pence said in remarks after receiving the shot in his left arm.
"Karen and I wanted to step forward and take this vaccine to assure the American people that while we cut red tape, we cut no corners," he said. "Thanks to the great work at the National Institute of Health, and the great and careful work of the FDA and the leadership of our president and Operation Warp Speed, the American people can be confident we have one, and perhaps within hours, two safe and effective coronavirus vaccines for you and for your family."
Doctors advised all three people that they must return in 21 days for the second dose of the vaccine and that they may feel some soreness around the injection site.

Public vaccinations are the weirdest news schtick I have ever seen. Period. What happened to this should be a private matter between a patient and a doctor? It’s almost as if we shouldn’t be allowed privacy, or a choice, in the matter....Oh....
Just more COVID theater.
For setting an example and taking the vaccine to try to help end this pandemic? That is an untrustworthy act?
Yes.
Who said that? VP Pence made a choice to set an example and do the very thing he is asking others to do. That was his choice.
I am hopeful that a vaccine for a disease with a low death rate won’t ever be mandatory.... but it may be made conditional... as in:
“No, you can’t fly to visit {Rome, fill in the blank} unless....”
“No, you can’t attend {Harvard, Yale, fill in the blank] unless....”
“No, you can’t attend {the ballet, the opera, the school play} unless....”
“No, public school is only for {people who are vaccinated against}.....”
“No, you can’t be a health professional unless {you have this list of vaccinations}...” These are all choices, too.
I can pretty much guarantee that the media won't be interested in filming you get the vaccine, or you refusing to get vaccinated as the case may be. But Pence chose to get his publicly as a way to get the people behind it. A wasted effort I think, but it is what it is.
I am not worried about “being filmed” getting the vaccine.
But the social media attention hogs are all using “I got the vaccine” to attract likes.
Weird social phenomenon.
