UPDATE 2-U.S. navy says China unreliable after meeting no-show; Beijing says U.S. twisting facts

- The U.S. military slammed China for failing to appear for virtual, senior-level meetings slated for this week, calling this “another example that China does not honor its agreements”, but Beijing said the U.S. version of events distorted the facts.

U.S.-Chinese ties have rapidly deteriorated this year over a range of issues, from Beijing’s handling of the coronavirus, U.S. support for Taiwan, China’s clampdown on Hong Kong and rows over Chinese telecommunications equipment maker Huawei.

The United States has also long opposed China’s expansive territorial claims in the South China Sea and sent warships regularly through the strategic waterway.

Admiral Phil Davidson, head of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, said in a statement on Wednesday that China’s no-show for the scheduled meetings “should serve as a reminder to all nations as they pursue agreements with China going forward”.

China sees no need to accommodate their underlings.

Soon, these insolent Americans will learn who is their true master.

Childish of the Navy. They whine about such BS instead of deciding China is an enemy.

Should have got rid of the ChiComs in the fifties using nukes if necessary.

Funny you should say that. My father was a BAR rifleman in the 1st Marine Division during WWII. He didn’t talk about the war much, but one night, alone with him, he told me this:
His division was assigned and went into Northern China in 1945 to eradicate whatever Japanese forces were left there after the war. While there, the communists had started and were winning the civil war to take over China.
Chiang Kai-shek’s men approached them every single day begging the Marines for assistance to help fight the communists, weapons, whatever they could do or spare...they even requested conscripting the Jap prisoners to help fight Mao’s communists.
The word came down the ranks all the way from the POTUS, Truman, NOT to give em a damn thing, not even a single bullet...nada...nothing.
Here we had battle-hardened, hard-core U. S. Marines that could have put that rebellion down in less than week...but no. My dad always felt it was one of our biggest mistakes. Chiang Kai-shek’s Nationalists were driven off the mainland and onto Formosa/Taiwan. The rest is history.
My dad went to his grave never understanding Truman’s decision, but then again, my dad was never a big fan of politicians, but he sure was good on shooting and fighting. Finished up his enlistment as a hand-to-hand combat instructor back stateside.

Funny. There were a few US Generals (Mattis, Milley) who seemed to think that they could delay, obstruct and gas-light their CinC over policy disagreements. At least the US Navy seems to have an idea that China might be a future opponent.

I met an engineer for a pharmaceutical company that flew cargo aircraft over the Hump from India to China during WW2. He continued to fly the same type aircraft for the CIA and their primary duty was shuttling Chang Kai-shek’s troops and supplies. So I think Truman was playing a double-game: not allowing US troops to openly fight the communists, but secretly using civilian contractors to handle the logistics for the Nationalist Army.

Incidentally, my father-in-law carried a BAR in D/2/1st Marines in Korea 1952-3. 4 purple hearts (no John Kerry rotations back then).

My late father told me he was a democrat.

But, when Truman fired Douglas MacArthur, my dad was so pissed that he, my father became a Republican and remained one for the rest of his life.

His was G/2/7 1st Marine Div. 2 purples...no mustering out for injuries back then. If you could up, you kept fighting.
For awhile, there were 2 or 3 of em left out of his old outfit that he stayed in touch with. Still have some of the letter around here somewhere.
They’re all gone now....passed.
All of the others will killed in Korea.
They tried to get him to re-enlist, but he had more than his bellyful at the time and didn’t. Glad he did that or I wouldn’t be here right now...LOL.
Those guys were some pretty hard-core men back in their day...as you probably well know.
