The driver of a box truck that struck and killed five bicyclists on a stretch of Nevada highway last week, and told investigators he fell asleep at the wheel, had a high level of methamphetamine in his system, prosecutors said Wednesday. Jordan Alexander Barson, 45, of Kingman, Arizona, faces 12 felony charges, including driving under the influence and reckless driving, in a criminal complaint filed in Las Vegas.
"Choices have consequences," Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said after a Las Vegas judge issued a warrant for Barson's arrest in the Dec. 10 crash on U.S. 95 between Boulder City and Searchlight, Nevada.

Whatever amount Biden* needs to function in public.
Many bicyclists feel very entitled - and some will go to early graves feeling that way.
Just another reason for me as an old bicyclist to stay on bike trails and low speed neighborhood roads. If the drivers are going above 40mph I don’t won’t to share the road with them. They do seem to be even crazier lately too.
Waiting for the “drugs, the victimless crime”.
Read the thread - it's been covered (post #21 in particular).
look, everybody has a right to do what they want with their bodies...drugs should be legal because we all know that people take their responsibilities seriously..../s/
So you support banning the impairing drug alcohol? Or are you a hypocrite?
If you can’t see ahead on a curve, slow down.
If you’re unable to stop in time, and hit a stopped car, the accident is your fault. Same is true if you hit a pedestrian or bicyclist on the shoulder of the road.
When you “used to drive trucks and when they’re fully loaded it takes a while to make a panic stop under the best conditions”, then you slow down so you can stop in time. If you don’t, you and kill someone, its murder.
"...the accident is your fault..."
10 miles an hour in a 60 mile an hour zone,
They can get a result for blood alcohol content on the spot. Not so with drugs, even though the introduction of such instant drug tests have been announced for a decade or more.
Organizations continue the successful push to make drug testing effectively difficult or impossible as a legal tool. Most police are afraid of enforcing drug abuse laws, and that’s in the states that haven’t legalized drug abuse. People who do drugs will continue to be a deadly threat on the roads and everywhere.

Pull out your dictionary and look up the word “initial”.
Yep that’s what they reported. Of course they are delusional during these times. Oh the stories they told, scary in fact.
The meth may have had nothing to do with the crash, but they are going to come down on that meth head like a ton of bricks. He put himself it a very bad place and they are going to make him pay.

The article is evidence against your claim. Do you have any evidence in support of your claim?
Life must be wonderful in your Mayberry world where there’s no bumper-to-bumper 80-mile-an-hour freeway traffic, where the laws of inertia have been repealed, where everyone obeys all the rules all the time and there are no complete idiots on the freeways. It would be nice to live there but I don’t. Take your bike onto the freeway anytime you like, I won’t object. I won’t send flowers to your funeral either.
I’m not trying to shift blame, just pointing out a fact. I ride bicycles and motorcycles, so I have personal experience with road conditions.

âÂÂDuring my years of drug counseling IâÂÂd ask each the meth users how many days or longest they wouldâÂÂve stayed awake before crashing. The most extreme cases were 29 days without sleeping the longest was 32 days.âÂÂ
FALSE. The longest a human can stay awake before their body shuts down and death occurs is approx 11-12 days. ItâÂÂs entirely possible these tweakers spent the majority of that time awake, but they were absolutely nodding off here and there and taking 30-60 minute disco naps. Tweakers are notorious for bragging about duration of sleep deprivation. TheyâÂÂre also notorious for having terrible memories and making things up. IâÂÂve personally stayed awake for 3-5 days at a time, and done so on many occasion, and itâÂÂs NOT an easy thing to do, even with the assistance of high purity methamphetamine. Day three is when the visual hallucinations begin. Day four is when the audible hallucinations begin. There is nothing spookier than sitting alone in your home and you begin to hear symphonic music playing, but itâÂÂs just your mind playing tricks on you. Also worth noting is that habitual users with high tolerances typically sleep on a nightly basis. I reached a point where I couldnâÂÂt stay awake for more than 24hrs, even if I wanted to, and I was smoking on average a gram a day.
