After about eight months of gridlock, Democrats and Republicans in Congress are nearing a deal on more COVID-19 stimulus checks, small-business loans and unemployment insurance aid.

The final details of the relief package are being haggled over ahead of a government funding deadline at midnight Friday, but negotiators have shared the broad outlines with reporters.

The deal is expected to include direct checks of either $600 or $700 for most Americans, a $300 weekly unemployment supplement and a large amount of forgivable small-business loans.

The PPP should have been means tested also. It ended up being a slush fund for businesses deemed essential and did not lose sales and profits.

Another trillion added to the debt. Not saying we don’t need some form of stimulus but our national debt is already at a ridiculous $27 TRILLION. Remember when it was approaching $20T and everyone was worried about excessive debt? Now no one cares.

The unfairly maligned Bill Barr DOJ has been prosecuting PPP fraud cases

Usually, I’d bank it or pay off a credit card which I usually do anyway. If checks come this time, I’m just going to buy ammo with it.

Now no one cares.

They will when the price of a loaf of bread is greater than their bank balance. I originally was going to say, “greater than the ATM maximum withdrawal amount” and realized that all ATMs would be empty by then.

I just heard Todd Herman (on the Rush Limbaugh Show) say that the debt is now 30 trillion.

He may be rounding up. The usdebtclock.org site shows $27T.

Whatever, its kind of academic at this point since it will be $30T soon enough. That much is certain.

(FWIW I’ve been shorting the dollar. Profitable trade so far.)

How do you know it is fraud?

The church met the published qualifications to obtain the PPP loan. the church will now have to file papers with detailed accounting information showing how the money was used. Must be auditable. If the church cannot justify the PPP they will have to pay it back. and believe me the regulators, as opposed the legislators, really want to get this money back. They are even changing the contract from how it was originally written. New guidelines but you still have to comply.
