You can always pop open that showerhead, get your drill, and widen the inlet hole in the showerhead yourself. You can increase the lressure to the point where you could wash circus elephants if you’d like.
That's exactly what I've been doing since these abominations were imposed upon us. It's usually not enough to remove the little restrictor; in addition, one must drill out the ball joint to enlarge the hole, as you point out.

I had to mod the aerator on a new kitchen faucet so I could fill the sink in my lifetime. In that case it was removing some parts. Works pretty well now. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
