Biden order to halt border wall project would save U.S. $2.6 billion, Pentagon estimates show

The U.S. government would save about $2.6 billion if President-elect Joe Biden halts construction on the border wall project on his first day in office, according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers estimates reviewed by The Washington Post...

The U.S. Army Corps estimates show there will be about $3.3 billion in unused funds in the project’s accounts on January 21. Army Corps officials have engaged in a series of meetings in recent weeks about how to end the contracts — and what can be done legally, and when...

While the Biden administration will have the ability to terminate or modify contracts with the construction firms building the barrier, those companies will be able to bill the government for “demobilization” fees that cover the withdrawal of crews, materials and equipment from the border. Those fees are projected to add up to about $700 million, according to the estimates.

The Army Corps also priced out a third option that would not add more linear miles to the barrier but allow companies to complete the roads, sensors and other “attributes” that are part of the contracts...

Construction crews along the border have been working round-the-clock in multiple locations to build the barriers as fast as possible before Biden takes office, anticipating that the project’s days are numbered...

A Biden decision to halt construction would deal the biggest blow to CBP’s efforts in South Texas, the busiest span for illegal crossings, which border officials identified as their top priority for new barriers. Crews are projected to complete about 30 miles of new barriers along the river levees in South Texas, far short of the agency’s goals.

Sure because we all know that Biden and the Pentagon really want to save money. Sure. Right.

Illegal immigration and immigration of our enemies is invasion. Of course the ONE thing that the Constitution demands of the feds to "protect each [state] from invasion" (U.S. Const., Art. VI, Sec. 4) is the ONE thing the Left and the government doesn't do to "save money".

What a crock. More Whale of Poo from WP.

“If there’s one thing the DhimmicRATs are good at, it’s saving the US citizen money.”

Touché.

Thanks for the levity. If I had been drinking, that would have been good enough to make me spit some out.

Exactly what I was thinking. In the long run it would cost way more then 2.6billion. That would probably be yearly just in costs of protecting those area’s. Having many more illegals breaking through and getting more free stuff. The cost of lives, because some of those illegals are criminals, plus they obviously don’t give a rip about our laws. So driving without a license, or driving drunk means nothing to them. I’m not saying all, but there are enough. They also steal SS numbers so they can work. In the DC area, they take many of the construction jobs away from American’s. Those jobs pay well.
