Jackson DeLude, an 8-year-old double-amputee and Buffalo resident, received a dream vacation to Disney World with a twist -- a set of prosthetic blades that would allow him to run properly, which he hadn't been able to do because of his partially-developed legs being amputated when he was an infant.

They are good guys
How much do blades cost?
Good ones are really expensive. I’m pretty sure you can expect to pay at least $25K each, more for the higher end ones you might see a marathoner use.
Great story, but I don’t understand that the blades would be beyond reach. I imagine insurance provided some sort of prosthetic. Are the blades, which look fairly simply designed, that much more expensive? I honestly don’t know.
I doubt they are provided like a prosthetic would be...they are likely “non-essential”.
The blades are not worn in every day usage like a regular prosthetic are, they are used to run or jump, if I understand correctly.
Wow... Metal on concrete. They can’t last very long either, right?
When you say $25k each, do you mean each pair?
I originally meant per single blade, $50K for a pair. But I was going from memory so I looked it up, and it looks like $25K for the pair. Still not easily affordable for a family especially when I assume a kid would quickly outgrow them, even a cheaper version.
potential Babylon Bee title
Buffalo Bills pressured to change name to a less insensitive name- Indians hunted buffalo, and calling a team Buffalo anything is insensitive to Indians, and must not stand
I figured a kid could just as easily walk around in them, so could be primary, instead of a spare pair. If a kid had to choose, I'll bet he'd choose the blades. It looks like he caught on to wearing them pretty quickly.
My above the knee prosthetic is $54,000....
The NFL is filth, but what these two did for that young guy is awesome...
A C style leg can run $40,000 to $60,000.
Bionic leg over $100,000.
Exactly...My “C” leg, as I said, is $54,000....My amputation was in 2009 and I have had 2 replacements of the leg and 4 replacements of the socket...
I don’t think they are well suited to walking around, I could be wrong, though. Too slippery, IMO.
Next step is Neuroprosthetics.
They are working on brain computer interface that can translate neural activity into prosthetic movement.
I doubt I’ll see those...LOL...I’ll be 72 4th of January...
Gabe Davis seems like a gem- besides being a great receiver at UCF. Despite all the police hate in Buffalo, he bought Thanksgiving dinners for the firemen and police: https://twitter.com/JonAlba/status/1332072706037182466
